More and more businesses are telling their customers the same thing.
Cards are VERY expensive, especially when adding to the high fees the “charge back”, where card schemes withhold payments to shops because of problems with the card holders. Charge backs are often reported to be at 3% or higher of sales.
So cash IS cheaper for shops.

Yes. Over 50 MILLION British adults continue to use cash. That’s over 90% of the adult population.
This despite the fact that around 30% of free-to-use ATMs have been closed permanently in the last few years.
It has become much less convenient for many Brits to get cash, with so many ATMs gone.
And, when people get the cash they want, they often find that their cash is refused by dictator....

It is NOT a significant minority.
Over 90% of British adults continue to use cash occasionally or frequently.
