Wake Up, HM Treasury - “Cashless” Is DEAD!

Posted on: 21/10/2025

Lucy Rigby KC MP, who is a Minister at HM Treasury, is at it again in this article, saying The Labour Party Government does not plan to introduce legislation to compel UK businesses to accept cash.

THEN BEST CHANGE YOUR PLAN, LUCY!

Every one of our European neighbours already have laws or constitutional measures in place,

mandating the publics right to use cash and rejecting the frankly bizarre notion that the whims of individual businesses should take precedence over the Public Interest.

Did The Labour Party REALLY get elected to ignore what the British public WANT and NEED in relation to cash?

Is this Government really so contemptuous of the British £ - the only payment method actually owned by the UK?

In fact, Keir Starmer and his Cabinet are completely out of touch with even their own MPs on this crucial issue, with over 70% of those MPs- NEARLY 300 MPs - recently telling YouGov that they want a law passed guaranteeing that the British public - who voted them into Westminster - can spend their cash, when and where they choose.

It is hardly surprising that so many Labour MPs have this view on cash acceptance legislation, since over 70% of the British public also told YouGov that THEY want a law passed guaranteeing their cash is accepted.

So the British public and Labour MPs are in accord - and Keir Starmer and HM Treasury are holding each others trembling hands in the darkness, hoping cash is going to be digitally destroyed.

It isn’t.

Cash is NOT a problem in need of a digital solution. It is a legitimate payment option that the vast majority of the British public want to retain.

SO THINK AGAIN, PRIME MINISTER, WHILST YOU ARE STILL IN A POSITION TO DO SO.
