Utterly thoughtless rubbish here.
There is absolutely no justification for Stagecoach Group Limited - or any other bus operator - to go “cashless”.
New York introduced a no-change system, where cash is dropped into a hopper by boarding passengers, on buses in 1969 - yes, before Neil Armstrong landed on the Moon - and still accept cash today, in 2025.
Edinburgh Buses - the UK’s best service - have the same system.
This means cash is not handled by drivers and is FASTER for fare payment than non-cash methods, as the “honesty boxes” for newspaper purchase used to be at WHSmith shops at railway stations.
Imposing “cashless” is robbing bus passengers of payment choice.
Not only is it unacceptable. It should be illegal in the UK, as it is in all of our nearest European neighbours.
Over to you, PM Starmer!
