Without cash, there can be no “cash only” to fall back on, to save the day for the British public.
No cash = no ability to buy the basics of life - food; medicines; travel.
When will the HM Treasury, Financial Conduct Authority and Bank of England recognise this easy-to-understand reality?
To speak of one day every member of the British public being “digitally included” and of “digital resilience” being 100% reliable, is to soar into a fantasy world that will NEVER exist.
Hackers will NOT go away; outages will NEVER be eliminated.
That is the harsh reality.
Which is one crucial reason why cash - the only UK-owned payment system - MUST be included in any credible “UK National Payments Vision”.
