Let’s Get YOUR MP To Sign Early Day Motion 808 - Cash Acceptance

Early Day Motion
Great News! Early Day Motion (EDM 808) has been tabled at the House of Commons, asking for the Government to introduce legislation to guarantee that YOUR cash is accepted.

A significant number of MPs have already signed the EDM, BUT we need you to contact YOUR MP asking them to sign the EDM, if they have not already done so!

You can see which MPs have signed the EDM here.

You will see that MPs from the following parties have all signed the EDM:

  • Conservative
  • Democratic Unionist
  • Green
  • Labour
  • Liberal Democrat
  • Plaid Cymru
  • Scottish National Party
  • Social Democratic and Labour
  • Ulster Unionist Party

The parties listed above account for well over 95% of all the MPs in the House of Commons. Such support is wonderful - but we need the numbers signing to increase to ensure the Government understands the strength of support for cash acceptance legislation in the House of Commons.

We need YOUR MP to sign!

Even if you have contacted your MP before about cash issues, please email them again - EVERY EMAIL HELPS! You will find a draft of the email you can send on the Take Action Page of the Payment Choice Alliance website! PLEASE SEND IT TODAY.

YES! Being Able To Use Cash IS A Fundamental Right!

Fundamental Right

Thanks to Jon Ungoed-Thomas at the Observer for this excellent coverage of the issues, featured above, and to Kate Osborne MP for highlighting the impact on her constituents and many others.

When PM Sir Keir Starmer is pulling together meetings with his fellow European leaders, as he needs to do frequently in these troubled times, he might reflect on the fact that so many of them have taken steps to compel businesses to accept cash.

Does Sir Keir REALLY believe that the British public deserves less fundamental rights than citizens of Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Norway and Spain - to name just a few of those countries which have taken legislative or constitutional action to put the needs and wishes of their voters ahead of the whims of misguided businesses?

Before the last election, YouGov surveyed Labour MPs for the Payment Choice Alliance. Over 70% agreed that a law was required to guarantee the British public’s cash is accepted, when and where they want to use it.

There are now 412 Labour MPs in Parliament - and it’s time for their Government - and ours - to deliver what the British public need and want. A Payment Choice Act.

Ron Delnevo tells Nick Abbot on LBC radio that the British public will NEVER accept the imposition of ‘cashless!

You can hear what Ron had to say to Nick Abbot here - it’s long but we are sure you will like what your hear! - but also listen to the heart breaking call to the programme from a cerebral palsy sufferer, who after 40 years of swimming can no longer get in the pool because cash is not accepted at his local leisure centre! AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. We WILL get this man - and every other man and woman suffering such awful discrimination - back to the position where cash can be used for EVERYTHING!

Take Action to Protect Cash

About Us

The Payment Choice Alliance, founded in 2014 and relaunched in 2023, is a campaigning organisation committed to ensuring the right of the British public to use cash is safeguarded by the passing of a Payment Choice Act.

The Act would give everyone in the UK the right to use their cash, when and where they choose.

The Payment Choice Alliance, which is run by committed volunteers, is also focused on ensuring every community in the UK has convenient cash withdrawal and deposit facilities. The provision of such facilities, along with the legal obligation of businesses to accept cash, will ensure cash remains a viable Payment Choice for the British public for as long as they want to use it.
