Cash Does NOT Require A “Digital Solution”!

Posted on: 06/10/2025

You have to admit that the “cashless” brigade keep on trying.

They fund a massive French PR agency Havas to orchestrate their attempts to push the UK towards “cashless”.

This enables them to obtain media coverage for nonsense.

Ironically, Havas couldn’t run the same anti Public Interest campaign in France, because “cashless” is BANNED by law in France, as in many other European countries.

There you go.

The British public, victims of the failure of a string of UK governments to curb the excesses of banks, including, of course, Fred “ the Shred” Goodwin, once the emperor of what is now called NatWest Group .

No need to comment on detail on the statistics in this article, other than to apply the general label “TOSH”.

However, it is worthwhile to comment on this quote from some bloke at LINK Scheme Ltd :

“Digital payments are the default choice across society, not just the young - but we must not sleepwalk into a digital-only society before everyone is ready.”

In 2018, having been instructed by the Big Five UK banks to reduce the ATM estate - an order that they have executed perfectly by overseeing the ripping out of 20,000 ATMs - LINK decided to fund a smokescreen.

That smokescreen was the “Access to Cash Review”,which carefully excluded those who really care deepily about ensuring cash has a future in the UK.

This “Review” concluded that cash was “expensive” - something the PCA told the Chair of the “Review” at the time was rubbish - but, as a token gesture towards the Public Interest, noted “the UK must not sleepwalk into becoming a cashless society”.

Havas may actually have come up with that “sleepwalk” line - but, whether or not they did, they have certainly helped push it ever since.

How is it that these geniuses don’t realise that cracking a bad joke once is bad enough - but repeating it brings inevitable ridicule?

There has NEVER been any question of the UK “sleepwalking” towards “cashless”.

A plan is in place to close almost all bank branches in the UK, to rip out as many ATMs as can be contrived and to impose “cashless” on the British public.

This plan has been in place for a very long time but it was accelerated from 2015 onwards as the banks took advantage of the political chaos of the Brexit vote and its aftermath to get away with closing two bank branches every day since 2015 and ripping out seven ATMs every day since 2017.

Simultaneously, banks have made it more difficult & expensive for in particular small companies and sole traders to use and deposit cash.

Fortunately, the British public are now well aware of the “cashless” future planned for them - and have REJECTED IT.

So here are two bits of news for the LINK bloke:

Cash is NOT a problem in need of a digital “solution”.

AND

The British public will NEVER be ready to accept “cashless”.

So save yourself some money & stop using a French PR agency in a fruitless - and expensive -attempt to impose something in the UK that is rightly illegal across the channel.
