What is shocking about this article is that it has taken so long for The London Standard to notice the rip-off inflicted on cash users who use the London Underground!
Overcharging those using cash to buy tube tickets has been going on for many YEARS- now they charge around times the card price to travel one stop using cash.
Transport for London has got away with this type of rip-off for two decades, erroneously portraying such pricing as “normal”.
Worse, they were allowed by Mayor Boris to stop accepting cash on London buses in 2014, in a disgraceful deal with Mastercard and Visa .
New York - the home of Mastercard - continues to allow cash to be used for fares on buses.
Los Angeles - in California, the home state of Visa - continues to allow cash to be used for fares on buses.
The truth is that there has been an attempt to con the British public that “cashless” is “ the norm”, verging on obligatory, despite the fact that Mastercard and Visa have failed to impose this horribly skewed thinking on the American public.
A VERY high tariff could be imposed on this attempt at transatlantic brainwashing.
Or - better still - the British Government can simply pass the UK Payment Choice Act, guaranteeing that the public can use their cash, when and where they choose. Including on London buses!
