The lovely village of Shaldon in Devon, at its heart demonstrates how cash should be treated by British businesses - with the utmost respect.
The photograph shows a sign in the excellent London Inn, located opposite the bowling green and close to the beach in this quaint estuary community.
“Please pay cash when you can” is all the Landlord asks, later thanking those who do so for “helping to keep the lights on”.
No “cash only” signs to be seen, instead offering Payment Choice, though politely requesting that customers choose to use cash.
Well done to all connected with the London Inn!
Contrast the London Inn, at the beating heart of Shaldon, with The Ness, a pub on the fringe of the village - and an outlier in another way; because Hall & Woodhouse, the brewery who own it, have disgracefully imposed “cashless” on their customers.
Cash, at the heart of a village - and of the UK; “cashless”, on the fringes, an outlier in every negative way imaginable.
The PCA team know which pub we will be “Inn” when we next visit Shaldon!
