PCA Chair Ron Delnevo was delighted to talk to the BBC again about all things cash and payment choice.
One important issue discussed was the fact that the Financial Conduct Authority had found via a survey that 76% of consumers thought the contactless limit should be the current £100 limit or lower, yet the FCA had decided in its “wisdom” to remove the limit entirely from March 2026!
This flagrant disregard for the wishes of the public is becoming the norm for governments and regulators - and is both a total disgrace and completely unacceptable.
In a similar vein, survey work has clearly demonstrated that the vast majority of the British public want to retain the option to use cash and almost as many want businesses to have a legal obligation to accept cash.
Another survey has shown that a significant majority of MPs agree with British publics views on cash acceptance.
Yet the government and regulators ignore the wishes of both the British public and their elected representatives.
Enough is enough.
In 2026, the British public will no longer be ignored - and that is a PROMISE from the Payment Choice Alliance!
