The answer the question in the article headline?
NO!
And now a quote from one these experts found by J.P. Morgan:
“Still, I would be surprised if we didn’t have a cashless society in the next 50 years. If that becomes the case, then it’s crucial that we ensure that the necessary safeguards are in place.”
So we might have a “cashless” society by 2074?
Around about the time Elon Musk is celebrating his 100th birthday in a penthouse on Mars?
On a planet facing such huge uncertainties that no one can predict what will happen in the next five years, even the most fervent supporter of cash and Payment Choice might live with worries with a 50 year horizon.
However, “cashless” isn’t something that the public will just “have”, like a cold.
An unhappy accident.
No. “Cashless” would have been imposed, to suit the plans of those who don’t have the Public Interest anywhere on their agendas.
So complacency will not creep in to the thinking of the Payment Choice Alliance.
Everyday until it is achieved, the focus will be on seeing UK legislation passed which gives everyone the right to spend their cash, when and where they choose; a Payment Choice Act. And the Payment Choice Alliance is targeting 2025, NOT 2074!
