It was wonderful to read in the Jersey Evening Post that Deputy Montfort Tadier, who chairs the Jersey Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel, is interested in pursuing a referendum on Jersey to let the public decide if Jersey businesses should be legally obliged to accept the publics cash.
PCA Chair Ron Delnevo was delighted to appear before Monforts panel recently. Ron urged the panel to recommend that a law be passed on the island to guarantee cash acceptance.
The Payment Choice Alliance 100% supports holding a referendum to let the Jersey public decide whether a law is required.
The potential for such a referendum in the UK must also now surely be seriously considered.
