A Payment Choice Alliance Newsletter

This article gives the apparent good news that £1 Billion from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and his Government will help fund cash payments to those in urgent need of financial support until 2029.
Hardly surprising in one way.
Research around the planet has demonstrated that cash is the best way of helping those enduring a financial crisis.
So it’s easy to see why two CEO’s of prominent Charities - Emma Revie at The Trussell Trust and Lynn Perry at Barnardo’s - are giving this important measure their full support.
However, what Minister for Employment Dame Diana Johnson - who is leading this initiative for the Government - needs to appreciate is that cash only provides genuine support to those most in need if it is ACCEPTED by shops and other businesses.
So Dame Diana needs to convince her boss Sir Keir to put aside his obsession with all things digital and to instead bring forward legislation guaranteeing that EVERYONE in the UK - including those in crisis - can spend their cash, when and where they choose to do so.
Any time this year will be fine, Sir Kier!

In March 2026, a Referendum on cash will be conducted in Switzerland. Since the majority of the Swiss public want to have the option to use cash - to retain Payment Choice - the mostly likely outcome is:
‘Yes to an independent and free Swiss currency with coins or banknotes (Cash is freedom)’.
A UK Referendum would almost certainly deliver exactly the same outcome. Which is why it is unlikely the British public will ever be offered one!

Entering a cafe where ‘Cash is King’ as a customer and leaving as a friend ……. a timely article that reminds us that cash IS the warmest, most human way of paying.
The local community love the cafe and visit as often as they can.
Enough said!
Well done to Maggie Wood and her team at ‘Maggies Cafe’ in Monk Bretton!

The PCA needs all the active supporters we can get! So please tell your friends about YOUR support for the Payment Choice Alliance - and urge them to visit our website to register THEIR support!
THANK YOU.
The Payment Choice Alliance, founded in 2014 and relaunched in 2023, is a campaigning organisation committed to ensuring the right of the British public to use cash is safeguarded by the passing of a Payment Choice Act.
The Act would give everyone in the UK the right to use their cash, when and where they choose.
The Payment Choice Alliance, which is run by committed volunteers, is also focused on ensuring every community in the UK has convenient cash withdrawal and deposit facilities. The provision of such facilities, along with the legal obligation of businesses to accept cash, will ensure cash remains a viable Payment Choice for the British public for as long as they want to use it.
