The All Out “War On Cashless” Starts In 2026!

At a recent meeting with the Financial Conduct Authority, the PCA told them that they should be stopping organisations publishing data deliberately underplaying the use of cash in the UK to further the cause of those trying to impose “cashless” on the British public. Here’s the AI answer to the question - What percentage of sales in the UK are in cash?

“Cash Transactions (Volume): Around 12% (UK Finance ) to nearly 20% (British Retail Consortium ) of all transactions.”

Note the HUGE difference in the percentages.

UK Finance - the Trade Association of the banks - are also in the habit of including with their “analysis” of cash use helpful little snippets along the lines of “by 2030 it is forecast that only 6% of retail sales will be made using cash”.

Such “forecasts” serve only to create vacuous media headlines which help the anti-cash brigade.

In this report, the British Retail Consortium highlights that cash fell from 19.9% of sales in 2023 to 19.2% in 2024, which is a decline of under 3.5%.

Credit Card sales, meantime, fell from 14.2% of transactions to 12.6%, a decline of almost 9%.

Have you noticed anyone claiming the UK will be “creditcardless” by 2030, on the back of this large fall?

OF COURSE NOT.

From January 2026, as part of our “War on Cashless”, the Payment Choice Alliance will be exposing EVERY attempt to falsely portray the UK as moving towards “cashless”. Cash accounted for only 8% of sales in Sweden in 2008. 17 years later the country is NOT “cashless” and will NEVER be in that miserable state.

Isn’t it strange that we hear almost nothing about Swedish payments in the UK today, in contrast to 2018, when we were told by the Access To Cash Review that there were important lessons to be learned from Sweden?

Why does Sweden hardly get a mention now?

BECAUSE SWEDEN NO LONGER FITS THE AGENDA OF THE ANTI-CASH BRIGADE.

If you want the truth about cash in 2026 and FOREVER , all you have to do is visit this website regularly.

The only agenda of the Payment Choice Alliance ?

TO ENSURE THE BRITISH PUBLIC GET WHAT THEY WANT.

Which certainly is NOT “cashless”!
