The figures in this article show just how popular cash is WHEN THE PUBLIC ARE ALLOWED TO USE IT.
Look at these figures:
“A total of 650,934 transactions were made in the town’s car parks during 2024/25 – just over 100,000 [more] than the previous year. Cash payments was the preferred choice of payment, with 495,346. That was followed by app payments (105,442) and card payments (50,166). However, the overall proportion of cash payments has dropped from to 81.5% to 76%…”
76% OF TRANSACTIONS IN CASH - AND A YEAR-ON-YEAR INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CASH TRANSACTIONS OF 40,000+
How could this ever be happening?
What about the “cashless” brigades story lines:
Thank you to the people of Oswestry for putting the “cashless” mythology to the sword!
There is no doubt the coin denominations in the UK can be rationalised - for, example, there is little use now for some very low denomination coins - BUT coins remain important, as the public in Oswestry have dramatically demonstrated.
A question?
With so many people wanting to pay by cash, should there be a ban on “cashless” car parks?
The answer?
YES.
Over to you, Heidi Alexander ( Minister of Transport) and Angela Rayner ( Secretary of State for Communities).
Time to declare War on “cashless” car parking, even before a total ban on “cashless” is implemented via legislation!
