Jersey Must Survey The Public For Their Views On Cash Availability And Acceptance.

Rather than just asking for people and businesses to submit views, the Channel Island government should do a proper survey of the public.

That’s what the Payment Choice Alliance did in the UK last year, through YouGo. The Alliance found that only 13% of British adults in any way favoured a “cashless” UK; on the other hand, 71% wanted a law put in place to give them the right to spend their cash, when and where they choose.

It is unlikely that the % will be much different in the Channel Islands BUT the public deserve a full survey to be done, not relying on self-selected submissions from the few. There are well over 100,000 people living on Jersey. How many will submit a response?

There is significant public skepticism about such “reviews”, in Jersey and elsewhere.
