“Honesty boxes should be dying like cash.”
Such headlines are really becoming tiresome.
As our Chair Ron Delnevo told a meeting at the Financial Conduct Authority recently, the big problem in the UK is that media is fed a continuous stream of anti-cash propaganda by a number of organisations closely associated with the dominant players in UK Financial Services.
There is even a quite obvious attempt to suppress the real total value of cash used by the British public each year.
The impression is given that the LINK Scheme figures on cash withdrawn from ATMs tells the whole story.
In fact, the cash used by the public in the UK is at LEAST 50% higher than the figures LINK Scheme quote as the value of cash dispensed by LINK branded ATMs.
So LINK reported that around £80 Billion in cash was withdrawn via the LINK ATM Network in 2024 - but the public in the UK actually acquired from various sources between a total of £120 and £130 Billion of cash in 2024.
And the average cash user obtains cash from one source or another around once a week.
Cash is NOT dying.
BUT there is certainly an attempted murder in progress.
Luckily, the Payment Choice Alliance is here to stop it - and bring the perpetrators to justice!
