About Us
The Payment Choice Alliance, founded in 2023, is a not-for-profit organisation that is campaigning to ensure the right of the British public to use cash is safeguarded by the passing of a Payments Choice Act.
The Act would give everyone in the UK the right to use their cash, when and where they choose.
The Payment Choice Alliance, which is staffed by committed volunteers, is also focused on ensuring every community in the UK has convenient cash withdrawal and deposit facilities. The provision of such facilities, along with the legal obligation of businesses to accept cash, will ensure cash remains a viable Payment Choice for the British public for as long as they want to use it.
Some GREAT news, even this early in 2024, is that our nearest neighbours – the Irish public – have been given Payment Choice by the government of the Irish Republic.

The Payment Choice Alliance wrote to UK Prime Minister Sunak last week asking him to explain why the British public are less deserving of Payment Choice than the Irish.
We have yet to receive a reply, so we urge all of our supporters to write to Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street, London, SW1A 2AA, asking him the same question. You might also like to remind him, in case he is in any doubt, that he will NOT be getting your support at the General Election in 2024 unless, at a minimum, a commitment to speedily put a Payment Choice Act before the Westminster Parliament is included in the Conservative Party Election Manifesto.
Please let us know how Mr Sunak responds to your letter!
What the British Public told the Payment Choice Alliance
In June 2023, the Payment Choice Alliance asked YouGov to find what the British Public wanted in relation to Payment Choice.
The results were clear.
71% of the British adults surveyed told YouGov that they want a law passed giving them the right to spend their cash, when and where they choose; a Payment Choice Act.
The desire of the British Public to have their right to use their cash safeguarded by law is hardly surprising, because the same YouGov survey found that over 90%of British adults continue to use cash, either occasionally or frequently.
The Payment Choice Alliance is committed to work to help deliver the Payment Choice Act the British Public have told us they want by the end of 2024.
