The first line of this “Research Briefing” for MPs, made available in the House of Commons library last week:
“People are relying less on both physical cash and traditional bank branches..”
So basically anti cash/ anti bank branch propaganda from line one.
Did it ever occur to the “researchers” to examine why US bank JPMorgan Chase & Co. have more branches than the Big Five UK High Street(?) banks put together - and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are opening 500 MORE branches over the three years!
Around 200 customers a day on average visit a JPMorgan Chase & Co. branch. They are totally transparent with their statistics. Whilst here in the UK….
As far as cash is concerned, note the use of the word “rely”. The anti-cash brigade are fond of that word - and also “need”.
HM Treasury love those words, as the Payment Choice Alliance was reminded last week when they were use in a letter the Alliance received from Bim Afolami MP, a Treasury Minister.
The “researchers” - and Bim - conveniently ignore the fact that millions of British citizens - and voters - neither “rely” on or “need” cash : WE CHOOSE TO USE IT.
And, in a General Election year, we are going to CHOOSE to vote for the government that respects our right to CHOOSE.
All political parties need to remember that they DO “RELY” on and “NEED” our votes!
